Luxury Boutique Hotel in the Historic Centre of Palma
In the heart of Palma de Mallorca's old town, we have completed the construction and full restoration of the Hotel Portella Palma, an exclusive five-star boutique hotel designed by GRAS Reynés Arquitectos and the Parisian studio Festen Architecture in their first venture in Spain, and built by Construcciones Llull Sastre. Portella is not a traditional hotel but rather an intimate and serene lived-in home, deeply connected to its historic surroundings, a haven of calm in the city's center designed for those who value authenticity, privacy, and understated luxury.
Restoration of a historic 17th-century building
The building, originally constructed in the 17th century, housed the former Joaquim Torrents Lladó house museum and has reopened as a high-end boutique hotel. It maintains a strong connection to Palma's art and culture, as it was the home of the painter Torrents Lladó until his death in 1993. Torrents Lladó was a contemporary of Tàpies and the poet Robert Graves. The project has respected the building's artistic spirit, preserving original elements and honoring the contributions made by the artist during his time there. Furthermore, the project faced a complex undertaking due to its location in the historic center with limited logistical space and the delicate restoration of numerous heritage elements, which required meticulous planning and specialized craftsmanship.
Contemporary design with a Mallorcan identity
The concept developed by Festen Architecture is based on the fusion of tradition and local history, making this premise the cornerstone of the project. This was achieved through close collaboration with local artisans to enhance the use of native materials such as Mallorcan terracotta in flooring with motifs inspired by Arab baths, the restoration of original ceramic ventilation grilles, the restoration of traditional woodwork, and the creation of blown glass pieces in collaboration with the historic Gordiola family. Custom lighting and furnishings have been carefully selected to optimize space, light, and functionality while respecting the original architectural essence.
13 apartments and suites in a shared private house
Today, Portella houses 13 luxury apartments and suites, some configurable up to 80 square meters by combining rooms equipped with custom kitchens and freestanding bathtubs, as well as an open-plan kitchen/café, rooftop terrace, gym, hammam, and treatment room. Available for both individual stays and private rental of the entire property, it maintains the essence of a private home shared with discretion.
